Filmmor Women Film Festival 10

Film Festival
9th March-19th March 2012, Istanbul
I am celebrating the 10th year of Filmmor... I celebrate Alice Guy-Blache, Agnes Varda, Furrug Ferruhzad,    Germaine Dulac, Maya Deren and all other women of film makers...

Feminist film lovers and film makers are still feeling like the very first day. Unfortunately not much have changed for better during this decade in the field of gender discrimination, gender based violence, terror against women and other related issues. Actually I think the things are getting worse, as the people have lost their dedication to change the situation. Because the indicators show that there is a progress. However I do not see that progress in the lives of women and other disadvantaged groups...

Filmmor once again gave us the opportunity to watch, think, talk and discuss about gender related issues in different cities of Turkey at least for one month. The festival travelled through İstanbul, Van, Hakkari and Çanakkale for one month, but it is not enough any way.

The trailer of the festival captures a typical "kitchen" scene from the classic "Jeanne Dielman" (1975) by Chantal Akerman .

Roll is over...

:(
Son 13 yılımı paylaştığım "Roll" artık yok... Evdeki Roll sayıları sadece 140 tane olmakla yetinecek. Roll insanları bir veda sigarası yaktı, bir veda "kalem"i yaktı bile... Umarım yolları açık olur ve yakında tekrar görüşürüz. Turgut Uyar'dan yaptıkları son "roll"lama selamımdır;
“Efendimiz acemilik. Bir taş alacaksınız, yontmaya başlayacaksınız. Şekillenmeye yüz tutmuşken atacaksınız elinizden. Bir başka taş, bir başka daha. Sonunda bir yığın yarım yamalak biçimler bırakacaksınız..."

BABEL

Lives In the Eyes of Three Fathers

Lives change every new day.

Every new day brings happiness and sadness for the people all around the world… Indeed this world is built on pain and sorrow…

BABEL tells a story in the eyes of three fathers “to the brightest lights in the darkest nights”.

BABEL is not just a movie, it is a masterpiece of cinema.

We see a father, crying upon his son’s death in the heart desert in Morocco.

We see a father, with tear drops on the cheeks is worried about his wife lying on the ground, and his son and daughter two continents away.

We see a father, who weeps gently and is hugging his depressed daughter in the crazy shining city of Tokyo.

All these stories can be connected in a world of globalization. The world is becoming a ground for the butterfly effect everyday more and more.

All these stories are so real and intimate. These happenings are so human.

We all are grateful to live in a colourful planet like this.

We can be dedicated to work for a better world indeed. We will…

I thank you Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for making these moments possible.

...to the brighest lights in the darkest nights...
