Dağ Film Fest

Dag Film Fest (Mountain Films Festival) claims to be the only adventure sports, nature and ecology  focused film festival in Turkey. This year it is organised 7th time. This year there will be screenings in three cities; Istanbul between 7-11 March, Izmir between 12-14 March, and Ankara 29-31March. The festival is organised Mountain Culture Association and Mineral Event Management.

Festival had its official opening in a very crowded atmosphere in French Cultural Centre yesterday evening (7th March). After the opening cocktail, the winners of Mountain Film Competition were announced and got their awards. Two movies (Bisiklet, and Çöp) that I saw before were among the awarded movies. Unfortunately the full list of the awarded movies is not published in their web site yet.

After the ceremony, "Rampa-Karda Uçmak" documentary was screened. This movie tells us the story of the first ski jumping ramp in Erzurum-Turkey and connects that history with the new ramp in the same hill built in 2010.

This year festival's first day screenings were also very crowded than last year. It is hard to find a free seat in the room, especially in the afternoon sessions.

Unfortunately it is hard to tell good things about the screening style. We were usually complaining about Istanbul Film Festival's or !F Festival's advertisement sessions before the screenings, but Dag Film Fest have taken the session of ads to another level.

Even before a 25min. movie screening, they are showing a set of advertisements of sponsors for 9 min. The same approach is used in festival catalogue and once a three pages there is some information about the movies. Sponsor firms also show their PR movies as a main screening during the festival. "Kamchatka Sky Diving to Active Volcano" and "Biathlon" were examples from today's screenings. I have to admit that sponsors are getting the best out of their deals with this event management, so screenings are happening between advertisements.

The screenings of Dag Film Fest will go on in Istanbul in French Cultural Centre on 9-10 March, and Aynalıgeçit on 10-11 March 2012.
